Our Dedicated Dialup services use standard modems or ISDN terminal adapters to give you 24x7 connectivity to the Internet. As always with analog dial-up equipment, occasional glitches in the telephone lines between you and foreThought.net can cause the modems to disconnect. You should use PPP/Internet software that can automatically re-dial to re-establish the connection. ISDN terminal adapters should suffer much less from this problem since they operate over a digital medium. Frame-relay is a permanent 'virtual circuit' between you and foreThought.net (as opposed to dial-up), and is also 100% digital.
Analog 33.6K/56K is the most inexpensive method of accessing the Internet. This is true unlimited service - you can be connected to the Internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - with no busy signals, guaranteed. You receive a guaranteed dedicated dial-up port, and as much bandwidth as you can shove through it. This service includes: unlimited usage access, PPP account and POP mail. Also includes 2 IP addresses (extra IP addresses available if you require them).
This service includes: one interactive shell account with a 5MB disk quota, unlimited usage access, PPP account and POP mail. Also includes 2 IP addresses (extra IP addresses available if you require them). To use our ISDN service, you'll need to have an ISDN telephone line installed (BRI or "ISDN Basic Rate"). This will provide faster and more reliable connectivity than a regular phone line. Required Equipment:
Note: We highly recommend that if you want to run a web server, that you host the actual web site with our Store Front service, and use your dedicated link to maintain your site (via mirroring, or similar techniques). For the typical business web site that does not have have large databases or complicated server-side scripting, this will provide the best performance and highest reliability for your users, while still being very cost-effective. If you are connecting your corporate LAN to the Internet, we recommend the NetGear RH348.
ISDN 128K is just like ISDN 64K, but at twice the speed.
A 64K Frame-Relay connection is a cost-effective way to get a dedicated (permanent, 24 hour a day, 7 day a week) Internet connection. Suitable for corporate E-mail, web power-users, BBS's, small corporate web sites, wide-area networks for small businesses, and telecommuting. Frame-relay is not a dial-up technology, and requires more expensive equipment than a typical dial-up connection. The Lucent Office Router is the device we have chosen to connect customers to our Frame Relay network. Local telephone company circuit costs are approximately $80/month, and are your responsibility (though we will place the order for you). Thus, the total monthly cost for a typical installation will be about $230/month. * Equipment fees can vary depending on your particular application. The price listed above is for equipment for a typical LAN to Internet connection. Contact us with your requirements and we'll put together a package for you.
